Selbu Bynesgarn
For this yarn, Selbu Spinneri has selected robust, resilient wool from Norwegian sheep. The wool comes from Norwegian White Sheep, other crossbred breeds with white wool and Grey Trønder sheep. The wool is washed, carded and spun in small batches at their small factory in Klæbu. The wool is treated very gently so that it retains the good properties of wool with the Bynesgarn resulting in a medium-thin yarn that gives your knitting a lovely vibrant feel.
From an historical perspective~ This yarn was developed in collaboration with Byneset Husflidslag when they were to reconstruct "Bynestrøya". The Byne sweater is one of the oldest knitted sweaters with a two-tone pattern found in Norway. The original Byne sweater was tightly knitted from a durable three-thread yarn. Even though it was knitted over 150 years ago, the original Byne sweater is still just as nice. We sure can call that a durable garment! With Bynesgarn, you too can knit solid, durable garments that may be just as beautiful in 150 years.
Natural Colors of Bynesgarn are available in 100g balls (216m/236yds) while the dyed balls of Bynesgarn come in 50g balls (108m/118yds) and are priced accordingly. Skeins of the hand-dyed yarns are also priced according to the additional care in processing needed.
Please be sure to double check your yarn requirements for any given project as it may be impossible to match dyelots at a later date. Selbu Spinneri is a very small operation in Norway.
