Simply. Beautiful. Knitting.

At SU Fibers, We Have One Goal:

To liven your knitting journey by bringing you the finest materials from spinneries using sustainably conscious practices.

As a little girl, I would frequently visit my grandmother, spending weeks at a time with her. It was then that I was taught how to knit! With small fingers, I would carefully loop yarn over needles, learning to create intricate patterns and vibrant designs. (Actually, the designs came after years of practice!)  As I grew up, I learned many other crafts and skills, but it was knitting that I would come back to, time after time. It was portable and was my solace, my sanctuary while raising 3 boys. (How many different games did I take my knitting to?) It was an art form that seemed to flow effortlessly through my veins. But as life unfolded, I grew distant from this peaceful pastime, gradually drifting away from the soothing embrace of knitting needles.

Then came a pivotal moment, recently, when I stumbled upon a pattern that set my heart ablaze. It was as if a dormant flame had reignited within me. A pattern for a shawl, the Eternity Shawl, popped up and I was hooked! Anne’s Norwegian Knitting became my go to place for knitting inspiration, and more! The pattern revealed the captivating world of Norwegian Colorwork, an artistic technique that infused knitting with new life, elegance, and cultural depth.

With determination coursing through my fingers, I embarked on this journey back to knitting, allowing the vibrant threads of creativity to interlace with memories of childhood joy.

As I delved deeper into the world of Colorwork, I was compelled to share this newfound passion with others. And so, I made it my mission to bring exquisite wool to the fingertips of fellow knitting enthusiasts, seeking to captivate their hearts with the same allure that inspired me.

SuperSoft and Coast yarns from England emerged as the perfect canvas for artistic endeavors. Their buttery softness embraced each delicate stitch, granting colorwork projects a remarkable touch of refinement. The yarn's quality, combined with its ability to beautifully accommodate intricate color patterns, is nothing short of remarkable. Knitters and artists alike will surely find solace and inspiration in the luxurious fibers that SuperSoft and Coast yarns deliver.

I also discovered yarns from two Norwegian spinneries, Hillesvaag and Selbu, which are also well suited to color work. (I am always exploring other spinneries as well!) The yarn itself is sustainable and renewable, coming from the various breeds of Norwegian sheep, some of them quite ancient. I also appreciate a spinnery, such as Selbu Spinneri, which takes the extra time to hand-sort the fibers, using sustainable practices from start to finish, choosing only the finest for spinning their wools. Learning about the various wools and sheep reminds me that the time invested into a handknit project is great and that project should be made with the best materials possible as it is likely to become a true family heirloom, being passed from generation to generation! So that is why I always go for natural fibers when I am planning a new project. I still have hats, sweaters, mittens that I knitted for my own children, and now share them so that all the grandchildren can also enjoy them! How many wool sweaters are in your closet that you can’t bring yourself to part with because of the fine quality and workmanship of that wool?

I strive to be as sustainable in my own life as possible. I am also an avid gardener and love to cook, and reducing my own imprint is important. To that end, I have purposely chosen to seek out the most biodegradable materials to use when shipping precious wool. Those I chose are both reusable as well as biodegradable!

At SUFibers, we are committed to providing you with the finest materials to elevate your knitting experience. Let the Knoll SuperSoft and Coast yarns, as well as the Hillesvaag yarns, grace your fingertips, offering a tapestry of possibilities to ignite your passion!

Happy Knitting~
